In accordance with the special status of the Customs Service agents body as set by Decree n° 96-2311 of 03 December 1996, the different ranks of Customs Service agents are as follows:
Sub-Lieutenant of Customs - officer corps
Recruitment conditions
Each candidate must meet the following conditions:
- To have Tunisian nationality subject to the disabilities provided for by the Tunisian Nationality Code.
- Enjoy one's civil rights and be of good morals.
- To be in regular standing with regard to the provisions of the law on national service.
- To be aged 27 at most on the date of January 1st of the year the competition opens.
- Meet the physical and mental fitness requirements demanded for the exercise of the functions to which he applies throughout the territory of the republic.
- His/Her application received the approval of the Minister of Finance.
- Having a visual acuity of at least 15/20 for both eyes, and this before correction.
- Measure at least 1m70 for males and 1m65 for females.
- Hold a master's degree or an equivalent diploma in the specialities to be set by the decree of the Minister of Finance opening the competition or among successful graduates of schools approved by the minister responsible for finance after (04) four years of higher education.
- Successfully participate in an entrance examination competition.
- Single.

- To be aged 24 at most on January 1 of the year the competition opens.
- Meet the physical and mental fitness requirements demanded for the exercise of the functions to which he applies throughout the territory of the republic.
- His/Her application received the approval of the Minister of Finance.
- Having a visual acuity of at least 15/20 for both eyes, and this before correction.
- Measure at least 1m70 for males and 1m65 for females.
- having completed the second year of the second cycle of secondary education or holding a diploma equivalent to this level.
- Successfully participate in an entrance examination competition.

Regarding the recruitment competitions for customs officers, non-commissioned officers and auxiliaries: Recruitment within the General Directorate of Customs is carried out through external competitions announced by order of the Minister of Finance. These orders, which are published in the Official Journal of the Tunisian Republic, specify the various conditions that must be met by candidates, particularly those relating to educational levels and required specialities. They also set the deadlines for submitting applications and the list of documents to be provided. The administration informs the public about the opening of these competitions through notices published in newspapers and dailies as well as on the Customs website under the "Competition Notices" section. The absence of such a notice means that no competition is currently open.
