Presentation of the regime
Persons who have stayed abroad for at least six months for study, internship or work assignment can import and clear a motor vehicle by paying in instalments over a period of four years according to the following terms:
During the first two years following the vehicle's importation date, the interested party benefits from a temporary exemption from duties and taxes due.
At the end of this period, he must pay these duties in four equal instalments, every six months over two years.
Furthermore, the duties and taxes due on the vehicle are calculated according to the value and rates in force at the expiry of the two years of Franchise.
Beneficiaries
May claim the benefit of this regime:
- Tunisian civil servants who worked abroad as part of bilateral cooperation but for one reason or another were unable to benefit from the definitive return regime.
- Tunisian civil servants sent by their administrations to undertake an internship abroad.
- Tunisians sent abroad by the Office of Professional Training and Employment or by any other organization to undertake training placements.
Conditions for granting the regime
- Provide justification for a stay abroad exceeding 6 months for study, internship or assignment.
- The age of the vehicle on the date of importation must not exceed:3 years for passenger vehicles. 5 years for utility vehicles including all-terrain vehicles.
- 3 years for passenger vehicles.
- 5 years for utility vehicles including all-terrain vehicles.
- The total loaded weight of the utility vehicle must not exceed 3.5 tonnes.
Required documents
- Application for benefit of the pre-printed regime provided for by the customs office.
- National identity card of the beneficiary.
- Passport.
- The detachment order or the internship certificate or the mission order.
- Copy of the vehicle registration document.
- Import authorization issued by the Ministry of Trade if the period of stay abroad is less than 1 year.
Place for filing the file
The file must be submitted to the attached office, which is generally the customs office nearest the interested party's residence.
